3 Tips for Improving work-life Balance
As a Realtor/Broker I have found that instead of working less hours because I manage my own time I can end up working more than 40 hours a week on a regular basis.
To achieve optimal work-life balance, you must learn to manage time correctly. Here are a few things you can start doing today to immediately improve your time-management skills:
1. Keep a regular schedule
Lots of entrepreneurs/business owners/independent workers enjoy working flexible hours, and there’s nothing wrong with that. If your schedule is too lax, however, you’ll likely fall behind on important tasks.
To ensure that you’re always on top of work responsibilities, try to set and maintain a work schedule that gives you plenty of opportunities to get things done ahead of time. This alone can really reduce work-related stress.
2. Utilize productivity tools
There are a number of productivity tools out there that can be great time-savers. Some of the most commonly used are task-management services.
Asana, for instance, is great for organizing tasks and ensuring that you’re on track toward hitting deadlines. If you only need simple project-management functionality, you can use the basic plan for free.
Other productivity services, like Trelio and Monday, offer similar features, so don’t feel like you’re stuck if you’re not happy with the first service you try.
3. Get some help
Over the course of the average workday, independent workers complete a wide variety of tasks. Many of these tasks could and likely should be outsourced.
For example, most of us can create our own marketing materials, wouldn’t it be a better use of our time to prospect or work on existing clients.
You might feel like you’re getting ahead by working constantly, but you might actually be setting yourself up for failure. Working too hard for too long is a recipe for occupational burnout. Although it might sound strange, spending less time working can actually be better for your business in the long run.
